News from El PAso May 20th 2013

Hi family how are you all? I hope you all had a good week, and that Dad has a happy birthday!! Well this week has been pretty good, lots of lessons and los of people to teach. One of the members was giving some cloths to the good will but then decided to donate them to the missionaries. So I now have 6 new suites!! I love suites, Sister Rose says that my style is boring but I love it. Ok so on to the story of the week.

So for the past month or so we have been teaching a less active family with an 9 year old who is not baptized named Aiden, and an 8 year old who is unsure of getting baptized named Ava. Also they are moving to Florida in July and we are afraid that if they move with out baptizing the kids that they will never get baptized. These kids are very wild and crazy they never really sat and listened to the lessons, at lest not till I started bringing candy. But even then they were still crazy. The mom is less active and the dad is not a member, and neither of them really bring much help. They just kept saying its up to the kids and are not helping them do things like read and pray. The past 2 times that we have taught them I have thought up fun games and those seemed to at least keep them interested for a little while. At one point I even had to talk to him through his R2-D2 puppet, but hey at least he was sitting still. But they were still just unsure about getting baptized. We told them how important it was to be baptized and that it would make heavenly father happy. But the 8 year old said that she was just to shy and didn't want people to look at her. So the other day we talked to the mom and just asked if she would help them to be baptized before they moved to Florida. She said that it may be a possibility but she would have to check her schedule. So we pulled out our planers and started asking if any dates would work. And none really did so we just encouraged her to find a day that she could help her kids be baptized on and then we left. Later that night we text-ed her and ask if she had found a date. She said that Adiden said that he wanted to be baptized on Friday, and that Ava would think about doing it with her brother. We were just shocked! We had been trying to get the kids on date for almost 2 months, and now it looks like they finally will do it! It just strengthens my testimony of working on the lords time and not my own.

Another man named Robert who was baptized on the 11th he is going to receive the priesthood so that he can baptizes his daughter Brooke this Thursday! ! That is going to be so cool to see him have that opportunity! But it has been a very good week and we will have 2 baptisms this week !!!! I love to be here and be a missionary! I miss you all so much and hope to hear from you all soon. Where are the pictures of Avery's Birthday! I want to see them! You should send them soon!!
I love you all so much!

Love Sister Chatwin.

Mothers Day in the mission field

Hi everybody!! How are you all doing since I talked to to yall yesterday? It was so good to see all of your lovely faces and hear your voices!! Also Happy Birthday to my big sister Morgan! And to Avery tomorrow !! I hope you all have a fun day and remember that I love you!!! So this week has been pretty good. We had a double baptism on Saturday, it was for an 8 year old boy Named Edgar (we are teaching his step mom and she will be baptized sometime this year), and  older man named Robert.  Robert is the man I talked about in the last email who went on line and found us! His 9 year old daughter Brook will be baptized on the 23rd, so we are looking forward to that.

Ok so the story of the week.... Oh yeah ok remember the embarrassing story I wrote about a few weeks ago? We I hope that you do because I am not going to tell it again. Well Tara is the girl who  said that she used to be atheist but that it was just to sad, boring and depressing. So she stopped. Well she has now finished the Book of Mormon and is rereading it with her Boyfriend! She says that she knows that It is true and she wants to be baptized! If only she would come to church and keep appointments then that dream could become a reality! Also her younger sister Reine is more involved and she has committed to pray and read the Book of Mormon with her sister.

Ok so here is the funny story of the week. So the candy down here is really nasty! They have normal little round balls that you suck on and then when you least expect it..WHAM there is chilly powder on the inside and it is nasty and HOT!! Some candy has the chilly powder on the outside as well, and it is even more nasty. So the other day we were at the church for something (I cant remember if we were at church for church or an activity... Oh well) And there was this 7 or 9 year old boy who came up to sister Rose and asked if she had any candy. She told the kid he could have some candy if he promised to eat it and not spit it out. So this poor kid unknowingly agrees to eat this mystery candy. Now sister Rose had just bought lots of Mexican candy, some with the chilly only in the inside and some with chilly all over. Also she loves to torment small children and animals, so she saw this as the perfect opportunity to torment this kid. So she got some of the really nasty candy with chilly all over it and gave it to him. I tried to warn him not to do it but sadly he did not listen to me. So he pops it in his mouth and starts to suck on it and after a few seconds says "WHAT IS THIS!" She reminded him that he promised not to spit it out and so he just kept it in his mouth. And then the kids mom came by and was laughing so hard at the look on his face, I mean really this candy is nasty!! And he then looked like he was going to pass out or vomit so sister Rose finally allowed him to spit it out. This poor kid has now learned to not accept anything from Sister Rose who is now the mean and evil Missionary, and I am now know and the nice and good Missionary.

Ha but its been a great week over all and I love to be down here. I miss you all so much and hope to hear from you again soon!!

P.S Don't accept candy from strange missionaries!!

Mothers Day

We were so excited to talk to Jenna for an hour on Mother's Day. She is in good spirits and seems to be doing well. She loves being a missionary and is having great success in El Paso.

So here is a note and pictures from a member that Jenna met in El Paso, She lets Jenna and her companion come to her house every monday and do laundry. Jenna said she has sort of adopted them.

This is Sis. Cadd,

I have the privilege of getting to work with your lovely daughter in the Hondo Pass Ward of the Mt. Franklin Stake of El Paso, TX. Please know that Sis. Chatwin and Sis. Rose both have an amazingly beautiful and strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. They are a blessing and an answer to prayers in our ward. Their strength of spirit and character is a blessing to me and my family personally. My home is brightened by their presence. Know that they are working diligently in the Lord's vineyard and the sacrifice of their time from you is a blessing to many. Missionary- a person who leaves their family for a short time, so that another can be with their family forever.

These pictures were taken just after they skyped with you on Mother's Day. Sending you love and best wishes from El Paso, TX

Hi everyone!! How are you? How was Grants blessing? You should send pictures!! I heard that it snowed the other day!! I miss snow, its so very hot down here and.... yeah it just really really hot. So my week has been good, we have been teaching lots of families and a few less active people. But the high light of the week was when sister Rose and I were out in Chaparral and we were meeting with this elderly man brother Stevens. And it turns out that he was a body guard for Ronald Regan!! I know cool right! He told us that president Regan was an amazing man, and that he was apparently really funny. OK so here is this weeks story, sorry it is not very embarrassing like last weeks but it is really amazing! So we (well I) love to check the mail every day to see if I got a letter or if we got a media referral. This is when someone goes online and asked for the missionaries to come over. So one day we did get one, it was about a Man and his daughter who wanted to learn more about the church. So we made and appointment to see him and went to see him. He said that he had met with missionaries before but was never baptized. However now he was thinking about his 9 year old daughter and decided that they needed a church to go to. So he found the church online and asked for us to come over. And he is set to be baptized on May 11th and his daughter is set for May 23rd!! It is just amazing how the lord works, and puts people in our path so that we can find them.

Also we had transfers last Tuesday, and Both sister Rose and I are staying in El Paso. I do love it here and the ward is just amazing! They are all very supportive and willing to help in any way that they can. One sister gave us super nice pillows, and cookies!! And another gave us shampoo and lotion. And there is a family here that has pretty much adopted us! They are the Cadd family. The Mom Joy is super nice and lets us do laundry there every Monday.  Oh and they are going to let us... you ready for it.... SKYPE FROM THEIR HOUSE ON MOTHERS DAY!!!! I am so excited that I get to see you all!! I think that we need to figure out how to do a 3 way Skype so I can also talk to Kate and her family!! But I just can’t wait!! Also Happy May birthdays to (in order of date) Morgan, Avery, and Dad!! I hope you have a great birthday and I am sending you all something!!! And also Happy Mothers day to the greatest Mother in the world!! I love all of you so much and can’t wait to talk to you!! Oh yeah did I mention how excited I am that I get to talk to y'all on mother’s day!!!

Love y'all so much!!
